The Mariposa County Unified School District/County Office of Education is seeking candidates to fill the vacancy on the organization’s Board of Trustees, representing District 3. Interested candidates must reside within District 3 (Hornitos/Catheys Valley area).
Members of the Board of Trustees are elected at large and are responsible for establishing a long-term vision for the school district; adoption of policy, curriculum, the budget and collective bargaining agreements; ensuring accountability to the public, including personnel, programmatic and fiscal accountability; and providing community leadership and advocacy at the local, state and national levels on behalf of children, district programs and public education. A qualified candidate would be one with a desire to ensure a quality education for all students of Mariposa County. The successful candidate will be selected by the Board of Trustees following an oral interview in an open session meeting.
Regular meetings of the Board of Trustees are normally held the third Thursday of each month at 6:30 p.m. in the District Office in Mariposa. Special meetings are called as needed and may be scheduled during the day or evening.
Interested residents of District 3 are encouraged to contact the School District Office at 5082 Old Highway North, P.O. Box 8, Mariposa, CA 95338, (209) 742-0250 for further information. The deadline to submit a letter of interest and resume is Thursday, December 10, 2009. In your letter of interest, please respond to the following two questions:
1. Why do you want to be a Board member?
2. What are the major goals that you would like to work towards accomplishing as a member of the Board?
